I am very excited to have been selected to take part in ArtSmart, an arts market designed to showcase the most talented UAL alumni across fine art, photography, design and fashion. The event takes place from
Friday 1 to Saturday 2 July 2011 at
Rootstein Hopkins Parade Ground 16 John Islip Street
London SW1P 4JU
(next door to Tate Britain)
Earlier in the year I was lucky enough to be selected ti take part in an exciting new project run by the arts organisation "Rules and Regs". Relay is a curatorial structure designed to challenge visual artists to experiment with new ways of working. It works like this............
The twelve participating artists draw lots to determine a random order in which they will join the Relay.
The Relay programme curator selects an initial Object to serve as the starting point for the Relay ‘chain reaction'.
The Object is not revealed to the participating artists until the beginning of the programme, at which time it is given to the first artist to take away from the gallery.
The artist then has a short time - about 48 hours - in which to alter the Object and return it to the gallery where it is documented and exhibited for the rest of the week.
The next artist in the chain is then given the object to take away, alter and return for exhibition...
The Relay continues with each artist altering the Object in turn.
I am the 6th artist in line for the Aspace Arts plinth and so have an anxious week ahead while I wait to collect the object before responding to it myself and returning it to the plinth next tues.
From Saturday 30th April until Friday 13th May I will exhibiting new work from my "Native Victorian" series at the Craftco Gallery in Southwold, Suffolk. (40A High St, Southwold, Suffolk IP18 6AE).
I will be exhibiting alongside fantastic illustrators Becky Brown and Claudia Silva. Check out the invitation for websites and contact details.
I had an operation to remove a cyst in my right wrist which has slowed me down a fair bit. Stitches out in a week and a half and I'll be back on the road.....
In 2009 I completed an MA in Illustration at Camberwell College of Arts, London and previously attended Kingston University where I received a BA Hons degree in Fine Art. I am currently working from my space in The Arches Studios, Southampton.
In 2008 I was awarded the Capmark bursary by The Society of Wildlife Artists. Other achievements include being selected for the Association of Illustrators ‘Images 33’ annual and exhibition, being Highly Commended at The Cheltenham Illustration Awards 2009 and becoming a finalist in the Aesthetica Magazine Creative Works Competition.
Alongside my illustration practice, I develop community arts workshops for organisations such as The Making, Creative Partnerships, Arts & Business, the Ashcroft Arts Centre and The Nuffield Theatre.
